Rosemarked by livia blackburne7/8/2023 ![]() ![]() This is a novel of that strange genre that has the feel and setting of a high fantasy, but doesn't actually contain any fantastical elements. This smart, sweeping fantasy with a political edge and a slow-burning romance will capture fans of The Lumatere Chronicles and An Ember in the Ashes. And amidst the constant fear of discovery, the two grapple with a mutual attraction that could break both of their carefully guarded hearts. But as they grow closer, they must find common ground to protect those they love. ![]() Thrust together on a high-stakes mission to spy on the capital, the two couldn’t be more different: Zivah, deeply committed to her vow of healing, and Dineas, yearning for vengeance. Now escaped and reunited with his tribe, he’ll do anything to free them from Amparan rule-even if it means undertaking a plan that risks not only his life but his very self. Now she’s destined to live her last days in isolation, cut off from her people and unable to practice her art-until a threat to her village creates a need that only she can fill.īroken by torture at the hands of the Amparan Empire, Dineas thirsts for revenge against his captors. ![]() ![]() When Zivah falls prey to the deadly rose plague, she knows it’s only a matter of time before she fully succumbs. ![]()

Book we have always been here7/8/2023 ![]() Well, this week has been something of a theme for reviews: I started off with robots and wilderness and humanity, then transitioned to wilderness and plants and magic, and now we are back with robots and humanity and the wilderness of reality, with introversion spread throughout like a balm. Dying with their eyes and tongues missing. People inexplicably ran out into the cold, stripping their clothes off. Leaving Park to figure out whatever the fuck is happening before the crew mutinies. ![]() Park was hired on last-minute as the back-up psychologist, and as a person more comfortable with robots than people, she’s feeling pretty over her head when her supervisor goes on an all-important mission and disappears. It started ever since she and her survey crew landed on a previously unexplored planet in the middle of nowhere-crew complaining of weird dreams, strange shifts in the ship’s structure, members getting sick and being put in cryo sleep, the androids acting…differently. ![]() Weird shit is happening on the Deucalion, and Dr Park cannot figure out what the hell is going on. ![]()

Batman scott snyder volumes7/8/2023 ![]() ![]() That, coupled with the flower on his face, reminded me of some DIY craft project with the kids that went horribly wrong. I just.what was the point? Most the time I was confused as to what Bloom was trying to accomplish, and maybe more importantly how he was going to accomplish it.Īre you shitting me with this? He's going to get people angry/scared/disillusioned enough to cut open their skin, insert a seed inside, and then these mutant seeds will help him have a self-sustaining energy source for his own power? Did I understand that right?Īnd as much as I liked Bloom in the beginning for rocking the eerie villain thing, toward the end he kinda had more of a skinny mime vibe going. The actual plot was, um, less than satisfying to me. Yeah, yeah, we've already got a ton of them, but. Now Jim Gordon can retire his Bugs Bunny costume, and go back to being the world's best police commissioner.Īnd you know what? This new Robin really grew on me during this volume. ![]() ![]() Very horror story esque!Īlso, I'm really glad that Bruce is back as Batman. I thought Bloom was super creepy looking, and I loved the way he sorta stalked around doing. Well, there were several things I really liked about this volume, so let's start with that. ![]()

A Discarded Son by Lorna Peel7/7/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I have also enjoyed reading about the other characters in their extended family and circle of friends, which the author develops further within this novel. I enjoyed reading how their love and mutual respect for each other continue to deepen as their relationship develops. Will and Isobel are a couple whose lives I have followed since reading A Scarlet Woman and A Suitable Wife. It is evident that the author has meticulously researched her subject material, from the day to day domestic endeavours of middle class families, to medical practices and the treatment of those with learning difficulties, the law and the wider social and political situation in Ireland at the time. It was a pleasure to follow them all as they endeavour to adapt and survive what life throws at them. Will and Isobel, once again at the centre of the story, continue to do their utmost to do the very best for themselves and their extended family and friends as they are confronted with numerous surprises, good and bad. The author transports the reader effortlessly to Victorian Ireland and I quickly settled into the read. This is the third instalment of Lorna Peel’s excellent series The Fitzgeralds of Dublin. ![]()

Billy summers review7/7/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() The gig goes sideways, of course – as “one last jobs” usually do in crime thrillers – and King fashions a sprawling road trip/revenge piece/character study involving mobsters, moguls, patsies, soldiers and one young woman brought to a crossroads after a sexual assault who becomes a major player in Billy’s existence. The caveat is he has to wait for his mark to be extradited back to a small Southern town from LA., so Billy has to blend into the community for several months and pretend he’s a writer working on a book as he sets up for the big day.Ī superstitious sort, Billy finds himself unwittingly forming close relationships in town (his absolute truth: “I like to fly under the radar”) and actually becoming inspired to write about the traumas from his childhood as well as his stint as a peacekeeping Marine in Fallujah, Iraq. ![]() Uncannily adept as both a shooter and an escape artist, Billy decides that his latest assignment, sniping a fellow hired gun powerful people want dead because he knows too much, will be his last. ![]() A decorated Iraq war vet, Billy is the man to call if you need an assassination done right, though he has a strong code: Billy only puts a bullet in people who he feels deserve to be put down. ![]()
